Selfishadows is an Italian dark wave band formed in 2007 by Daniele Giustra.
Selfishadows embodies both the ambition of an improvisational ensemble and the need to discover a new form of songwriting. Daniele Giustra skillfully blends modern and vintage synthesizers, lyrics, and electronic drums in a krautpop atmosphere steeped in pathos. Between Wave and Glitch, the sonic exploration adapts to the very nature of a “therapeutic” voice—dry and minimalist, in the style of a crooner. Stillness as an expression of movement.
SELFISHADOWS manages to transport us both into hazy, hushed atmospheres (Again) and onto the dance floor with tracks of formidable effectiveness (Illusion), and Selfishadows’s sound ultimately becomes more grayish than dark; with that tense, flickering light that lets us glimpse, beneath that dark hood, a warm voice and a gentle, comforting melancholy.
