joined art-punk band i n 1980\u00a0<a title=\"Pompeii 99\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pompeii_99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pompeii 99<\/a>\u00a0after answering an ad placed by\u00a0<a title=\"Valor Kand\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Valor_Kand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Valor Kand<\/a>. She joined Valor&#8217;s band and the pair also become lovers, giving birth to a son, Sevan, in 1984, and later a daughter, Zara. Gitane stayed with the band when it joined with\u00a0<a title=\"Rozz Williams\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rozz_Williams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rozz Williams<\/a>\u00a0to become the new line-up of Christian Death, 1983. Gitane split from both Valor and Christian Death in 1989.<\/p>\n<p>Gitane may have had an obvious background in\u00a0<a title=\"Punk rock\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Punk_rock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">punk<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Deathrock\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deathrock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">deathrock<\/a>\/<a title=\"Gothic rock\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gothic_rock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gothic rock<\/a>, but she also had a passion for\u00a0<a title=\"Jazz\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jazz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">jazz<\/a>\u00a0and a number of legendary female vocalists, most notably\u00a0<a title=\"Billie Holiday\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Billie_Holiday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Billie Holiday<\/a>. Her visual image was no less intriguing, a rubber-clad\u00a0<a title=\"Sadomasochism\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sadomasochism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">S&amp;M<\/a>\u00a0look the order of the day, with the\u00a0<a title=\"Sexual fetishism\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sexual_fetishism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fetish<\/a>\u00a0theme carried through into her lyrics (Demonix).<\/p>\n<p>Gitane released a couple of\u00a0<a title=\"Extended play\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Extended_play\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EPs<\/a>\u00a0early in her solo career (eventually collected on the compilation\u00a0<em>Facets In Blue<\/em>). She then renewed her friendship with former bandmate Rozz Williams, touring together and then recording an album <em>&#8220;Dream Home Heartache&#8221;<\/em> in 1995 which included both cover versions and their own material. She then paired up with\u00a0<a title=\"Mark Ickx (page does not exist)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Mark_Ickx&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Ickx<\/a>\u00a0to produce a full-length album, released under the name &#8216;Demonix&#8217;, around the same time<\/p>\n<p>Gitane recorded an album of her own entitled\u00a0<em>&#8220;Am I Wrong?&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0in 1997. She also continued to provide guest vocals for bands on both sides of the\u00a0Atlantic, and also released a compilation of the songs she sung in her Christian Death days. A second studio album,\u00a0<em>Stars of Trash<\/em>\u00a0(again self-penned, but recorded with the assistance of the band\u00a0<a title=\"Dreadful Shadows\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dreadful_Shadows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dreadful Shadows<\/a>) followed in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Picking up the guitar in 2000, she wrote a series of songs, and with her daughter Zara on drums, created the band Crystelles. She released the lp Attach and Detach in 2009. A second lp was recorded; unfortunately the tapes were lost when the studio The Distillery, was shut down.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, she released a two disc DVD entitled <em>&#8220;Life after Death&#8221;<\/em> which was published by Cult Epics. The DVD contains various footage throughout her career including a live performance with Rozz Williams.<\/p>\n<p>She has also performed\/recorded with the experimental noise band +DOG+., hardcore punk band Ciril, Loopool, Goethe&#8217;s Erben, Fucking Consumer, Bloody, Dead And Sexy, Dreadful Shadows. Her vocals\/lyrics are featured on the electronica lp The Alpha Project, 1997.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, her surreal prose story The Blood was published by Poison Cabinet in Britain, in book form.<\/p>\n<p>After the last European tour in 2011, Gitane put Crystelles on hiatus, in favor of focusing on vocal and solo work. Her new lp <em>&#8220;The Reflecting Shadow&#8221;<\/em> is the culmination of experiences taken from the past 14 years, which tested her survival skills as a human, artist, mother, friend, daughter, lover: the tales of this past are read into the songs on the album, which includes a booklet of lyrics. She is currently performing the album, released June 1st on French labels Manic Depression\/ Alone Prod.on cd. A vinyl release is expected in the near future on Ad Nauseum Records, Hollywood, CA.<\/p>\n<p>Gitane is also involved recording an lp for new project Hedone Tears, a collaboration with Jean-Paul Garnier (Loopool), and Syphillis Sauna. Son image visuelle \u00e9tait pas moins intrigante, ses tenues en latex et cuir S\/M, dont le th\u00e8me f\u00e9tiche se mat\u00e9rialise dans ses paroles.<br>Gitane a sorti quelques EPs au d\u00e9but de sa carri\u00e8re solo. Elle a ensuite renouvel\u00e9 son amiti\u00e9 avec son ancien coll\u00e8gue Rozz Williams, en tourn\u00e9e ensemble et ensuite enregistrer un album \"Dream Home Heartache\" en 1995 qui comprenait deux reprises et leur propre mat\u00e9riel.<br>Elle a ensuite travaill\u00e9 avec Mark Ickx pour produire un album sous le nom de \u00abDemonix\u00bb, dans le m\u00eame temps Gitane a enregistr\u00e9 un album de son propre intitul\u00e9 \"Am I Wrong?\" en 1997. Elle a \u00e9galement continu\u00e9 a s'inviter au chant pour des groupes des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l'Atlantique, et a \u00e9galement publi\u00e9 une compilation des chansons qu'elle a chant\u00e9 avec Christian Death.
